November 16, 2020

Dear Penn Cambria Families,

The District was forced to transition the HS students to a full remote learning model on very short notice yesterday. This was due to a 40% illness rate for employees along with several students and staff exhibiting COVID-like symptoms at PCHS.

While we are not seeing issues of that magnitude at other buildings, the District remains committed to being as proactive as possible to keeping our students and staff safe. We understand the challenges any change creates, especially for the families of our youngest students.

After careful review of the current situation in our schools and in our community, all schools in Penn Cambria School District will move to a full remote learning model starting on Thursday, November 19th and extending through December 22nd.

Over the next three days, our teachers in grades Pre-K to 8 will be able to help transition our students to full remote learning.   More information regarding remote learning will be emailed to student email addresses, and parent email addresses on file in MMS by Tuesday evening at 6pm.

All faculty and staff will continue to report to school and will work their normal hours.  Faculty will be providing opportunities for daily live learning sessions for students.

Any families that need to pick up items at school can contact that school and schedule a time to pick up those materials. We will still have tutoring Wednesday at PCMS on Wednesday, November 18th as planned but that will be the last session through Christmas.

All extra-curricular and after school activities are cancelled through December 4th. A decision regarding extra-curricular activities after December 4th will be decided and announced before December 4th. The District will make decisions regarding the learning models for January 2021 before we start Christmas break.

Meal pick up will be available at PCHS, PCMS, and PCI from 12:30 – 1:30 pm on Mondays and Thursdays starting this Thursday, November 19th.  Pre-Ordering meals is not required but appreciated for us to best prepare and serve our community.  The link for the meals is on the main page of the Penn Cambria website.  If you have any questions, please call Angela Focht at 814-886-7753 Ext 6.

Due to Thanksgiving, meal distribution for next week will be on Monday & Wednesday and the week of November 30th will be Tuesday and Thursday. Meal distribution will return to Mondays and Thursdays the week of December 7th.

If you or any members of your household develop symptoms of COVID-19 or have symptoms that worsen, notify the Pennsylvania Department of Health immediately at  1-877-724-3258 and contact a health care provider.

Please stay safe.

Sincerely,

William W. Marshall

Superintendent
