Dear Families,
Penn Cambria School District has been closely monitoring the district’s phased reopening plan. We understand the struggles our families face due to the hybrid schedule while at the same time acknowledging the health risks associated with the virus for our entire school community.  I would like to commend our students, families, faculty, and staff for their strict adherence to the state mandates for masking and other safety protocols. It is this spirit of cooperation that allows us to consider a phased return to a more traditional school schedule.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS – GRADES PK-4

Beginning Monday, October 12, 2020, PC elementary schools will move to face-to-face instruction five (5) days per week for all Pre-K to grade 4 students.  We will work to distance students and staff as much as possible in our elementary buildings, while also maintaining cleaning and other safety protocols.  However, with a full return of all students in a building, we cannot guarantee six feet of social distancing in many of our classrooms and while riding district provided transportation.

MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL – GRADES 5-12

The District will continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on our county and communities. Our goal is to return to full face-to-face instruction for middle school and high school students starting on November 2nd if conditions allow.    We plan to make that decision in mid-October to give our families approximately two weeks’ notice to prepare for any change.

All families should be aware that in the event of positive cases the District may need to close specific classrooms, schools, and/or the district and move to full remote learning.  If this is necessary, we will notify all families via our global calling system.

Please keep your child home from school if you have reason to believe the child was exposed to COVID-19 or if he/she is feeling ill for any reason. Please continue to use the self-screener tool provided daily.  The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are cough, fever, loss of taste, and shortness of breath. Muscle aches, sore throat, and fatigue are also common. If your child exhibits any of the above-listed symptoms, please consult with your family medical provider immediately.

Sincerely,

William W. Marshall

Superintendent
