Our first school day did not go as smoothly as planned for many of you. We apologize for the issues and we thank those of you that contacted our administrative team or the PC Cyber Academy Mentors to report problems, ask questions, and help us troubleshoot issues.
Please see below for a few specific updates for our families.
Grades K-5 Cyber Academy Students
We requested printed workbooks at registration for each student from IU8. However, they have still not been delivered. Shipping notifications show they should be delivered in the next day or so. We will notify families as soon as they arrive.
The dashboard view in the IU8 Canvas system looks different for some courses than the sample we were provided and that we reviewed with families during the orientation meetings. Our cyber mentors will continue to help families with navigation and also help them get in contact with the individual teachers at CPDLF when there are questions as a result.
Also, CPDLF/Extended Campus was to adjust due dates for Penn Cambria students based on our start date of 9/8/20. However, apparently that was not yet completed so students saw assignments past due today when they first logged into the system. CPDLF/Extended Campus will be working to correct that issue and adjust the course pacing to reflect our semester dates as quickly as possible so that our students do not have the added stress of feeling that they are behind before they even get started.
A reminder to please use https://iu08.instructure.com/login/canvas to login. Students should have received an email (Penn Cambria email account) from Mrs. Black last Thursday with usernames and passwords. These usernames end in @cpdlf.org.
Grades 6-12 Cyber Academy Students
We reported server errors in accessing Edgenuity courses to the company starting at 7:15 am. The company did an emergency maintenance this morning and while that did temporarily solve the problem, we again reported the same errors a short time later. The company is aware of this problem and is working to resolve it. We are hopeful this will be resolved soon and obviously our students will not be penalized for this system-wide technical issue. We will have them adjust the pacing guides and lessons accordingly, although it may take a few days for the pacing guides to adjust. Please don’t worry if you see a “behind pace” message tomorrow.
We thank you all for your patience today. We have worked hard to build systems and supports for our cyber students and we share your frustration today! We will continue to do everything we can to get these system both running smoothly and to help our cyber students be successful.
